WORKSHOP “An Introduction to Intimacy Direction”

Language: English

Led by: Director and Intimacy Coordinator NJ Agwuna (USA)

Date and time: September 24th, 10:30 a.m.

Venue: Meno fortas (Bernardinų St. 8, Vilnius)

Registration is required!

The workshop is primarily intended for those who encounter intimacy direction in their creative processes: directors, actors, dancers, choreographers and other performing arts practitioners.

This workshop is an introduction to the foundational ideas and concepts of intimacy direction and work in theatre, based on Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC) practices as well as concepts from the book Staging Sex. It is a consent-based workshop, meaning participants will be informed of the content and given opportunities to opt in or out of various practical exercises.

The workshop introduces established and emerging professionals to creative and technical processes for creating physical and emotional intimacy, nudity and sexual violence in live performance. It will also address clear and open communication between performers, directors, creative teams and intimacy professionals, boundaries and bodily autonomy, and approaches to creating safer working processes.

The workshop will include practical and movement-based exercises, so participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

NJ Agwuna is a theatre and film director, educator and multidisciplinary artist, as well as an IDC-certified intimacy coordinator. Their work centres on consent, collaboration, physical storytelling and socially engaged performance.

The workshop is organized in cooperation with The Drama League (USA).

Those wishing to participate are kindly asked to fill in the application form by September 15. Confirmation of participation will be sent by September 21.
