“Minor Detail” is the latest production by the State Youth Theatre, directed by Adomas Juška and based on the acclaimed novel of the same title by Palestinian writer Adania Shibli. The performance explores historical violence, power, memory and the limits of storytelling, asking how trauma can be represented without reproducing violence and what it means to exist without power or a voice.
The novel is divided into two contrasting parts. The first recounts the rape and murder of a Palestinian girl by Israeli soldiers in 1949. In the second, a woman from Ramallah reads about the crime and embarks on a journey to reconstruct the story from the victim’s perspective rather than through the testimony of the perpetrators.
One of the most distinctive voices of the younger generation of Lithuanian theatre directors, Adomas Juška is known for his poetic visual language and literary adaptations, placing atmosphere, rhythm and imagery at the centre of his work.
Adomas Juška (b. 1996) is a director of the younger generation and a student of Eimuntas Nekrošius. In 2018, during his third year of directing studies, he made his debut and presented his first five works at the State Youth Theater. Adomas Juška often focuses on complex, large-scale works of 20th-century literary classics, and his theatrical language is characterized by symbols and metaphors, prioritizing action over words. In 2023, Juška won the “Golden Stage Cross” for directing the play “The West Bank“, and in 2025, he won the “Golden Stage Cross” for directing the play “The Melancholy of Resistance“.
