Mahāmāya (महामाय) translated from Sanskrit means: mahā – great, māya – illusion. The great illusion. In Hinduism, it is believed that the world we see and experience is a mirage created by divine power.
What is the meaning of life? What is true love? Who am I?
Have you ever asked yourself at least one of these questions?
“Mahamaya Electronic Devices” is a theatrical experience that does not offer roles, life situations or a coherent narrative. Based on the play by Ivan Vyrypaev, the performance, with a rich chorus of questions and answers, outlines the perceived boundaries of our complex and ambiguous world and invites you to think: what constants in our everyday life are indisputable? Do they really exist? Is there one, universal truth?
Touching upon the deepest aspects of human life, asking about God, love and the limits of personal freedom, the performers of Mahamaya Electronic Devices attempt to find answers to the fundamental questions of humanity, with their overwhelming abundance of words and themes already suggesting that the answer lies beyond the language barrier. Immerse yourself in a dynamic and engaging exploration of your own nature. You are watching and listening to Mahamaya Electronic Devices.
The performance was created in collaboration with the Teal House Foundation.
Iwan Wyrypajew (born 1974) is a film and theater director, actor, and one of the most important contemporary playwrights in Europe. I. Wyrypajew’s works are well known to Lithuanian audiences – his plays have been staged at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, the Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre, the Open Wheel Theatre and many others. Mahamaya Electronic Devices is the second work based on I. Wyrypajew’s playwriting, which appeared on the stage of the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre after the premiere of The Iran Conference (directed by A. Špileva) in 2020. Since 2014, the artist has lived in Poland and vehemently opposes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In 2023, I. Wyrypajew, together with his wife, actress Karolina Gruszka, founded the international cultural foundation “Teal House”, the aim of which is to help artists who had to leave their native countries and, due to geopolitical, economic or personal reasons, integrate and create in other countries.
Mykola Mishyn (born 1987) is a director, playwright, and teacher. Having started his creative path in 2012 in Ukrainian and Russian theaters, since 2022 the artist has been living and creating in Poland. Together with I. Wyrypajew, he has presented “Mahamaya Electronic Devices” in Warsaw and Chisinau. Currently, M. Mishyn works at the foundation “Teal House”.
