Conference “Body Trouble. Bodies and corporeal experiences in contemporary Baltic theatre” is a part of the programme of the Baltic drama forum, that is organised in every year in different Baltic country.

Conference “Body Trouble. Bodies and corporeal experiences in contemporary Baltic theatre” is a part of the programme of the Baltic drama forum, that is organised in every year in different Baltic country. The aim of this conference is to direct Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian theatre researchers’ and theatre makers’ gaze towards the topic of body and corporeal experiences in contemporary performing arts. The topic was chosen to complement international programme of “Sirenos” festival – this year dedicated to the bodies – with theoretical insights.

Wishing to explore the evolution of theatrical aesthetics and theoretical thought regarding body and corporeal experiences, body in theatre will be discussed from three perspectives. First of them – bodies on the stage – is designated to dive deeper into the changes of how bodies are represented on stages by contemporary theatre makers.  Second – creative bodies – is aimed to analysing field of problems connected to theatre makers bodies and corporeal experiences in creative process and how is theatre makers body (gender, age, sexual orientation, race) connected to the creative possibilities that open to them. And lastly, the conference speakers will discuss bodies in audience and the ones, that are still deprived of theatrical experiences.
