Visitors Programme in Sirenos

This year, Vilnius International Theatre Festival SIRENOS comes focusing on the topic of the Body. Throughout the festival’s programme, we will discuss the body in today’s social discourse, starting with gender as a social construct, fighting bodies, (dis)embodied bodies and finishing with technological substitutes for bodies. We will also talk about bodies on stage: what is human presence on stage like today, now, and what will it be in the near future?

Sirenos festival organises Visitors Programme to showcase Lithuanian theatre and performing arts for international theatre professionals. Visitors Programme will run from 21-25 September in Vilnius, Lithuania. In four days we will present 11 productions with the last day of the showcase taking place in Kaunas, which is also the European Cultural Capital this year.

Lithuanian Theatre Showcase is a part of the annual festival programme and is curated by independent Lithuanian theatre experts. This year the programme is drawn by two theatrologists, Ramune Balevičiūtė and Vlada Kalpokaitė.  Alongside large scale contemporary theatre productions made by prominent theatre makers, the showcase curators have decided to present many young and emerging artists, who are oftentimes daring to venture to unsafe experimental territories with small scale, uncoventional and mobile productions.

For the first time the showcase will host an international jury, which will award 3 prizes for the work they find most prominent. We proudly present the first jury of Sirenos: Mojca Jug (coordinator and artistic programmer, Bunker’s venue, Stara elektrarna, and festival Mladi levi, Slovenia), Luisa Hedo (artistic coordinator at Festival de Otoño de la Comunidad de Madrid, Spain), Pierre Thys (general and artistic director of the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, Belgium), Didier Juillard (head of programming and production at Théâtre National Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe in Paris, France) and Iliana Dimadi (head of dramaturgy at Onassis Stegi, Greece).
